Ardbeg Supernova 2014 Review

Ardbeg Supernova 2014 The fascination continues with the appearance of the latest release from Ardbeg, the much acclaimed Supernova. The 2014 edition is bottled at 55% Abv which is lower than the 2010 edition which was a big hitter at 60.1% Abv and the 2009 at 58.9% Abv. Both were highly acclaimed and are classic Islay whiskies with the 2009 crowned by Jim Murray as Scotch Whisky of the year, while the 2010 came second the following year. So where does the 2014 rank? in terms of promotion it has certainly has been out of this world and the clamour among whisky lovers to get their hands on a bottle will ensure the 2014 will go down in history as another part of whisky folklore. I know many will not be disappointed and in fact with this edition there will be new fanatics.

I would like to thank Ardbeg for the sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Classic Islay for me packing a great big hit of peat and brine, smokeiness and sea air, with a sweet grassiness developing.

A delicate start for such a big nose, slight citrus and smoke with the earthiness of peat that keeps building. Has the medicianal flavour with and an added sweet chocolate undertone and dry wood.

A long finish which compliments the palate, strong and enjoyable with the saying of bonfire on the beach coming to mind. This is a lovely big whisky.
