Balvenie Single Barrel Sherry Cask 15 Year Old Review

Balvenie Single Barrel Sherry Cask 15 Year Old Day 8 of the whisky advent calendar is this Balvenie Single Barrel Sherry Cask 15 Year Old.

I really enjoyed the 12 year old single barrel when I tried that a while back so I was really looking forward to trying this dram.

These are released in batches of no larger than 650 bottles from a single cask, each one being hand numbered. Although no two casks are the same, and therefore won't produce an identical single malt, the casks are carefully selected by Balvenie's Malt Master to ensure a consistent, rich, spiced character.

Very tasty, with fruit and tangy spices and pepper, lovely stuff, there's almost a hint of rubber that I get sometimes with some sherry casked drams but it doesn't quite get there which works for me and although I preferred the single barrel 12 (due to the ex bourbon which I get on better with) this is certainly still a very drinkable dram.

Thanks to Drinks by the Dram for the calendar and thus sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

That sherry note comes in first, it almost noses a touch rubbery but then it goes more sweet peach and plum, dried fruits come in, black morello cherries, sweet icing sugar covered dates and raisins, slight hints of fresh fruit salad creeping in too, very enticing,

Sweet icing sugar, touches of peppery spice, dates and apricots, peaches, plums, tangy haribos, sweet raisins, sultanas, malty soreen loaf and digestive biscuits

Sweet and filled with tangy haribos
