ASDA Extra Special Islay Malt Whisky Review

Port Askaig 19 Year Old A while back after a chat with my friend Barry Bradford (@thewhiskyphiles) from The WhiskyPhiles blog, about the fact I wanted to review more supermarket drams, he popped up with this one, and a few others.

Supermarket malts are getting better and better and I'm excited to try this dram, watch out for more supermarket drams in the coming weeks.

The palate is lighter than the nose but this is extremely drinkable stuff, especially for the price point (which is £20) and I would happily drink quite a fair bit of it.

Fair to say if this is the quality from ASDA extra special range I will enjoy the others in the range immensely.

Thanks again to Barry (@thewhiskyphiles) for the sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

Oh this is nice it's got a citrusy tang to the peat smoke which comes across like bacon frazzles and crispy bbq'd bacon with lemongrass twisting in with it, a light fruitiness floats about in the background also like melon balls in syrup with crushed Edinburgh rock chalkiness on top.

Much much lighter on the palate than the nose, vanilla and gently smouldering lemongrass mix with a hint of bbq steak and more chalkiness, quite sweet too almost like artificial sweetener

Chalky and sweet but lasts quite well
