Auchentoshan BYO Oloroso Cask 933 Review

Auchentoshan BYO Thanks to my friends Andy (@andysinc41) and Barry (@thewhiskyphiles) from The WhiskyPhiles blog who it turns out both gave me a sample of Auchentoshan Bottle Your Own Oloroso Cask 933 which was distilled on 23/9/04.

The nose is beautiful and right up my street with chocolate and fruits then nuts and typical oloroso notes, the palate is hugely punchy due to the ABV but still fruity and with a touch of water the chocolate comes back again.

Cracking stuff and makes me want to pop out to the distillery and pick up their latest bottling.

Thanks again to both Andy (@andysinc41) and Barry (@thewhiskyphiles) for the samples.

Thanks also to Barry (@thewhiskyphiles) for the use of the pictures.

Tasting Notes & Details

For a sherry cask this is quite light on the nose, chocolate mousse, sweet dark fruits in syrup and caramel, hints of spiced/mulled wine, the chocolate comes through again with chocolate covered Brazil nuts and hints of cashew nuts.

Wow that's got a huge punch of flavour, helped by the ABV, lots of leather and sweet dark fruit peels, plums, nectarines, and fig rolls, chocolate comes though again with a touch of water along with more gentle nutty notes

Powerful punchy and ongoing sweetness cracking stuff
