Roughstock Montana Pure Malt Whiskey Review

Roughstock Montana Pure Malt Whiskey I was lucky enough to be gifted for review a Drinks by the Dram American Whiskey Advent Calendar and this Roughstock Montana Pure Malt Whiskey is one of the drams from that calendar.

This doesn't nose like a malt whiskey, more like wet weetabix, it's got lots of bourbon-esque notes rather than malt notes, the palate is light and betrays the ABV, easy enough drinking but pretty forgettable to be fair.

Buy from specialists like Master of Malt

Thanks to Drinks by the Dram for the calendar.

Tasting Notes & Details

Odd nose for something that is pure malt, almost wheat like, wet weetabix with cold milk, a hint of syrupyness, big cereal notes, Cask char hovers and reminisces of bourbon, vanilla and red currant cream, wet wood and tree sap

Warming light vanilla cream and treacle scones, wet weetabix and cereal, red currants again, light for the ABV, has quite wine like qualities and mouthfeel

Lightly spicy, drying almost tannic
