Fruity, dark fruits, sultanas and plums, melon balls in syrup, a hint of bitter pith, a touch spirity and herbaceous, tomato plant
When i was hunting the Whisky Auctions for something interesting and found this set of four miniatures, with this Glenkinchie 10 Year Old likely from the 1990s or early 2000s a part of it.
Glenkinchie would probably be my local distillery now, although Auchentoshan isn't much further, and i've had a few interesting Glenkinchies over the years.
This is a really unusual one, the fill level was a bit lower than i would have liked, just touching the shoulders of the bottle, but the taste was great, lots of sweet fruits on the nose, then a touch spirity and a herbaceous
tomato plant note, the palate is soft and easy drinking, possibly the fill level affecting that, but the finish was out of nowhere, ashy, charred and seriously spicy, it had came completely out of the blue, but works so well with the dram leaving it a very complex taste.
I really need to source more old Glenkinchie and see what i get from it, as this was really interesting and i really enjoyed it.
To find drams like this you will want to look at Auction houses like Whisky Auctioneer or specialist retailers like Hard To Find Whisky where you might be able to find some old and rare minis.
