Glentauchers 1996 Distillery Labels (Gordon and MacPhail) Review

Glentauchers 1996 Distillery Labels (Gordon and MacPhail) Another interesting Gordon and MacPhail whisky in the form of this Glentauchers 1996 Distillery Labels bottling.

I've been sipping a lot of Glentauchers recently, including ones from the same year for my day job, and this has a little more of that spicy element than the others I've had recently, it adds a nice element of complexity and means it's not just a bottle of sweetness.

I really enjoyed this dram, and it's made me want to spend more time with Glentauchers which really is a bit of a forgotten gem.

Available to buy from from Master of Malt

Thanks to Gordon & MacPhail for the official sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

There's a really sweet fresh note first, fresh fruit salad, with honeydew melon at the front, and a swirl of light syrup, then a slightly bitter hint of kiwi and greengage with a touch of wood spice and caramelised vanilla custard, the slightly bitter notes increase with time in the glass,

Some definite creamy notes, sweet chantilly cream with mixed fresh fruit salad, a sprinkle of cinnamon powder and a a sweet dollop of treacle all served on a balsa wood plate, its sweet and juicy but still has a woody slightly taste element.

Sweet, juicy, mouthwatering, wood spices
