Linkwood / Morrison & Mackay

Linkwood 1996 Celebration of the Cask (Carn Mor) Review

Linkwood 1996 Celebration of the Cask (Carn Mor) When whisky that isn't that old, like this one in its early twenties, and the abv is as low as this you know that the cask has been either leaky or active. Once you've had the slightest of sniffs though you will know that it's been an active cask as the wood spices come at you full on.

There are very few bottles of this, only 108 of them, which says that it might have been leaky, but either way it's a fabulous dram with masses of both sweetness and tangy spices going on.

I really liked this, really really liked this, lots of sweet notes but the tangy wood spices worked for me also, and that underlying sweet meat that comes with Linkwood is there also, brilliant stuff.

Sold out in a lot of places, at the time of writing this there is still some available from The Whisky Exchange.

Tasting Notes & Details

Wood spices first up and lots of them, haribo tangtastics especially those fizzy dummies, lemon and orange travel sweets, candied orange, lemongrass and ginger spiced vanilla sugar, properly cooked pink lamb chops in a oasted bread crust.

Lots, and lots, of wood spice, then those fizzy sweets and spiced sugar comes in again, a touch meaty again

Goes sweeter, still wood spices, like cinnamon, but its wrapped in a sugar coating
