Aberfeldy / Gordon & MacPhail

Aberfeldy 1993 Connoisseurs Choice (Gordon and MacPhail) Review

Aberfeldy 1993 Connoisseurs Choice (Gordon and MacPhail) Independent bottlings, at cask strength, of Aberfeldy don't come along too often, so i was really excited to see this dram in a set of samples from Gordon and MacPhail.

Aberfeldy is so full of honey and deliciousness it's difficult to not spot this in amongst other drams, but i definitely have neglected this distillery a bit and need to spend more time sampling through drams from this great distillery, if you're passing pop in it truly is awesome.

Filled with honey of varying kinds, dark fruits and a juicyness on the nose i just wanted to dive right in, the palate packs a serious punch and although 25 isn't as tame and old and sophisticated as you would expect. This is delicious, utterly utterly delicious and you really want to try to hunt one of these out.

Appears to be sold out everywhere i can see, if you spot it please let me know and i'll update this article.

Thanks to Gordon & MacPhail for the Official Sample.

Tasting Notes & Details

You could or at least should be able to pick this out a blind line up from 40 paces as it’s just that typical Aberfeldy juicy honey note, it’s got a really powerful dark fruits note and goes almost Heather honey edging to manuka honey at times, this is delicious on the nose.

Wow that’s got a real punch for a 25 year old dram, burnt coffee grounds and leather belts, there’s full on dark fruits in fig jam, spices, cinnamon and white pepper, tangy fruit peels and sweet mincemeat

Sweet, coffee, cacao nibs, hugely tasty
