Tomatin / Scotch Malt Whisky Society

SMWS 11.32 Cirque De Saveur Review

SMWS 11.32 Cirque De Saveur I get asked a lot what my favourite whisky is, and to be honest it's such a difficult question, but i'd be happy to mention this distillery when saying ones that are on my Yes Please list.

A huge abv of 61.60% on this 1st fill ex bourbon barrel single cask from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society but sipped nicely it goes down without water, although a drop or three of water brings out more of the tropical fruitiness.

It's a very familiar dram, and there are some amazing complex and fun flavours in here that in my opinion show up any of these ex sherry drams that seem to be the in thing at the moment.

It's bottles like this that made me fall in love with the SMWS and although i'm no longer a member i do still have friends who are and i do still love what they do, maybe so much so i might have to rejoin.

Tasting Notes & Details

Oh wow, that is totally just a big bowl of tinned fruit salad in a glass, those sickly red cherries from the tin coming through really strongly with some hard not quite ripe pears, and it's a light juice rather than syrup, some menthol and eucalyptus lozenges and some light char with a hint of liquorice.

Ok so at 61.60% this most definitely packs a punch and i would definitely not go slugging this, it is however really fruity with a note, i almost want to say buttery popcorn, that i get with a lot of Tomatin whiskies and this definitely reminds me of the Tomatin legacy, but with added oomph. The liquorice and menthol are still there and thats just tropical fruit salad from a tin. Yum.

Big and full on, but soft and fruity, long lasting menthol
