Glenlivet 19 Year Old 1996 cask 79229 (Signatory Vintage) Review

Glenlivet 19 Year Old 1996 cask 79229 (Signatory Vintage) Glenlivet, one of the best selling distilleries in the world, is one that I tend to enjoy, the standard 12 year old is one that I happily enjoy on a regular basis.

I've been lucky enough to try a number of single cask expressions in the past and have tended to enjoy the ex-bourbon ones most as they bring out the tropical fruit notes from the Glenlivet spirit more.

Oh now this is one of the strangest notes I've ever had in whisky, coriander and curry notes are something i really didn't expect, but they are hugely tasty and although a really odd note it's one I'm really keen on, I'd happily drink lots of this.

This was bottled in 2016 and I don't seem to be able to find anywhere with it left in stock, but keep an eye out for others in this range.

Tasting Notes & Details

This is really quite interesting, touches of vanilla essence and tropical fruit skins, then a hint of coriander leaf that reminds me of a curry, some sawdust notes, the fruit skins get stronger and begin to overpower most of the other notes as it sits in the glass.

Again I'm struck by a note that reminds me of coriander leaf and curry notes again, i really wasn't expecting this. Some fruity notes but it's a mango chutney and dipped popadoms note, this truly makes me think of a curry but in a really good way.

Mango chutney and popadoms, sweet
