Balblair 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky Review

Balblair 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky In mid 2019 Balblair replaced their highly acclaimed and much awarded vintage range with a new range of age statement whiskies, I was lucky enough to partake in a twitter tasting of the 12, 15, 17 and 18 year old expressions and these are my notes and impressions of the 15 year old.

The 12 year old was a slight let down for me so when i first stuff my nose into the glass of this i was very much interested, there is almost a hint of sweet smokiness which comes across a bit like manuka honey, then dark chocolate, tropical fruit salad in a sweet syrup and a hint of something more pencil shaving like.

The palate was a slight disappointment from the nose as the tropical fruit in syrup wasn't really there and had been replaced by more spicy notes and more sour fruits like greengages and orange peel.

It's a huge improvement over the 12 year old and in the right environment i know i would really enjoy this dram, i was just let down a little by the palate not quite having that same delicious fruitiness as the nose.

Available to purchase from all good specialists such as Master of Malt.

This Balblair was tasted as part of the #BalblairWhisky Tweet Tasting, thank you to Balblair for supplying the official samples.

Tasting Notes & Details

This is interesting, manuka honey, but with a hint of heather honey in there too, dark chocolate shavings, dusty dunnage warehouse and a hint of pencil shavings, tropical fruit salad in light syrup as well

Dunnage warehouse and spices, cinnamon, nutmeg and a touch of ginger heat, takes over everything, dusty, pencil shavings, not as much of the fruit as I would have liked, some tangy greengages and a hint of orange peel also.

Window putty, plastic
